Privacy
I am committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. Below, I outline how I collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information.
- Mailing List. When you subscribe to any of my mailing lists, your first name and email are collected by my newsletter platform, MailerLite (view their privacy policy). At the bottom of each email you receive from me, you have the option to unsubscribe or manage your preferences. I can also unsubscribe you or manage your preferences at your request.
- Payment Information. When you send me a payment via Interac e-transfer (view their privacy policy) or Wise transfer (view their privacy policy), I do not receive any of your personal information beyond the sender’s name you disclose to them.
- Email. I use Google Workspace to host my email. Here is their security whitepaper.
- Contracts. In your contract, I collect your full name, mailing and email addresses, and phone number for communication and tax purposes. I input this information into Wave invoicing software (view their privacy policy). I do not distribute or disclose this information to anyone else, and my data storage is password-protected.
Confidentiality
As your editor, I will take all reasonable steps to safeguard and prevent the loss, destruction, or unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of confidential information using a reasonable degree of care and no less than the same degree of care used to protect my own confidential information. I will not make any unauthorized use of any of your trade secrets, confidential information, proprietary property, trademarks, or copyrighted materials.
- Mentorship. Because I am always working to develop my editing skills, I engage mentors (who are bound by my ethical standards) from time to time. I occasionally share relevant texts and my markup with them for feedback purposes—all other information is kept confidential.
- Document management. During a contract, I keep copies of each iteration you provide, as well as my revisions. After the contract is finished, I archive the documents in case you need them at a later date, but I will promptly destroy confidential information and any other of your property at your request at any time following the completion of the contract.
As the author, I trust you will provide all information that has a direct bearing on the successful outcome of your project and will inform me in writing of any portion of the work or related information that is confidential. I will hold in confidence and not disclose confidential information to any third party, except with your written consent or as required by law, with prior notice to you.
Cancellation Policy
Editing
Please refer to the terms of rescheduling, cancelling, or missing deadlines in your project contract.
Coaching
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, here’s how we handle it.
- Cancelling or Rescheduling. Please email me with at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule (earlier is always better).
- No shows. We all forget appointments. If you don’t make it to a session, I will email you. Please get in touch so we can make a plan for how to go forward with your session.
- Emergencies. If something urgent comes up, let me know ASAP (by text), and we’ll work something out.
- Fees. I prefer to work out a plan that doesn’t involve paying for sessions you can’t attend, but I reserve the right to charge you for cancelled or missed sessions.
Payment Policy
For projects or sessions under $200, I bill when the work is complete. For projects over $200, I take a 50% deposit when the contract is signed and bill for the remainder when the work is complete (see contract for additional payment and refund policies). Invoices are due upon receipt. I accept electronic payments through Interac e-transfer (Canadian funds) and Wise (international funds). All of my prices are in CAD.
