Short Story Wednesday: “The Immortal Rabbit”

“The Immortal Rabbit” by Audris Candra is a mystery-flavoured literary story published on January 6, 2026, by PodCastle. (Text & Audio)

Of this story, you are not merely a reader sitting placidly in a café, on a park bench, or within the walls of a library. You spend eternity refinding your soulmate in various forms and combinations from the Qing dynasty forward, reliving the ever-evolving but never-ending hate that plagues you both, conscious every moment. In the end, you emerge a little confused about who you are and unsure of what it is that defines the people miraculously walking around you, a feeling that sticks with you as you make your way home, to bed, to rise again. You marvel at what is possible in such a limited number of words and sit down to write.

Each Wednesday, I review my favourite published story I’ve read during the past week. If you’d like to join me by reviewing a short story on your blog each Wednesday, email me the link to your post, and I’ll share it below. I learned of Short Story Wednesday from Patricia Abbot’s blog.
